1. Scope
This policy explains how Unary Systems ("we", "us") handles information in connection with:
- the Pentable Android app (
com.unarysystems.pentable); - the Pentable PC app for Windows; and
- this website.
2. Information we don't collect
Pentable runs entirely on your own devices. Specifically:
- No personal information. We don't ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number or location.
- No analytics or crash reporting. Neither app contains third-party analytics, usage tracking or crash-reporting services.
- No advertising. Pentable shows no ads and doesn't access your advertising ID.
- No uploading of your input. Your pen strokes and gestures are processed in real time on your PC and are never sent to or stored on any server.
3. Data shared between your devices
To work as a pen tablet, the Android app connects directly to the Pentable PC app over your local network or a USB cable. The following data is exchanged only between your device and your PC:
- Device names and identifiers: random identifiers created when the apps are installed, your device's model name and your PC's name, so each side can show what it's paired with.
- Screen details: the size and pen capabilities of your device's screen, so input can be mapped correctly onto your monitor.
- Pen settings: your chosen orientation, active area, pressure curve, smoothing and finger mode.
- Pen and touch input: pen position, pressure, tilt, button presses and trackpad gestures, which the PC app passes to Windows immediately and does not keep.
Every connection is authenticated with the key created when you paired the devices, and all data is encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Other devices on your network can't read or inject input.
4. Storage and deletion
Settings and pairing keys are stored only on your own devices.
On your Android device
- Paired PCs: stored in the app's private storage, encrypted with a key held in the Android Keystore, and excluded from cloud backups.
- Pen settings: stored in the app's private storage.
- Deleting: remove a PC in the app under PCs & pairing → Forget. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling Pentable erases all of its data.
On your PC
- Settings and paired devices: stored in your Windows user profile. Pairing keys are encrypted with Windows Data Protection, tied to your Windows account.
- Diagnostic log: a local log file helps troubleshoot connection problems. It never contains keys, pairing codes or pen input, and it is never sent anywhere.
- Deleting: remove a device in the PC app's Devices tab. When you uninstall Pentable, you can choose to delete all of its settings and paired devices.
5. Android permissions
The Android app only requests the permissions it needs to find your PC, keep the connection fast and show that a session is active.
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
| Network access | Connect to your paired PC over Wi-Fi or USB. Pentable does not connect to servers on the internet. |
| Local network access | Find and connect to your PC on your home network (Android 17 and later). Requested only when you connect over Wi-Fi. |
| Wi-Fi multicast | Find your PC automatically, without typing its IP address. |
| Wi-Fi state and wake lock | Keep Wi-Fi in low-latency mode while you draw, so power saving doesn't cause lag. |
| Foreground service and notifications | Keep the connection alive and show a notification while a drawing session is running. |
6. QR code pairing
When you scan a QR code to pair with your PC, scanning is handled by the Google Play services code scanner.
- Pentable doesn't request the camera permission and never receives camera images.
- Google Play services reads the code on your device and returns only the pairing information to Pentable.
- You can always pair by typing the pairing code instead.
7. This website
This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It uses no cookies, analytics or advertising. Cloudflare processes standard connection data, such as IP addresses, to deliver the site and protect it from attacks, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
8. Children's privacy
Pentable doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 or the applicable age of digital consent in your country.
